Deceptive Lenses...

I chose to talk about the picture of Oprah Winfrey. This served as the cover of TV Guide in August of 1989. Winfrey's body was substituted for the body of actress Ann-Margret. There was no reasoning as to whythe picture was manipulated, however I do not feel that it was harmful to anyone in particular. It does however send off the vibe that certain bodies are of higher value or acceptance in today's society over others. This was done without consent of either parties and is not an action that should be considered acceptable.

  1. Nice blog! It almost seemed as if that picture was humorous because it was so obvious that it was not Oprah! Good job :)

  2. I totally agree, the picture didn't do any harm, but what was the point of manipulating the picture? There didn't seem to be a reason.

  3. I agree! Very snappy title, by the way, it made me eager to read what you wrote! I like how you addressed the issue that, while it was not directly harmful, it sends out an unpleasant idea about society's values!

  4. Agreed that it sends out an unpleasant message...and isn't Oprah one of those "love your body" advocates? Well I guess this was "doctored" up without her consent...

  5. It is funny that the body does not seem like Oprah's at all. If I had seen that photo, I might have thought that some editing had taken place to make her look more "magazine cover worthy".
